This week we travel back to 1973 with a team of women writers who give us a history lesson on the era when American Graffiti was originally released. It is an interesting overview of the time and the feel of our nation. The girls are pretty tough on our favorite little movie describing some of the characters as "The f#ckable blond with a heart of gold" or "The tee-shirted car freak with no future". I'll cut the ladies some slack on their review. No matter how many articles I read on American Graffiti I still find it interesting how different people see the film.

This is one of the better articles I've read that has a different perspective on the film, and its significance. It really describes the overall "look" of the film describing it as being comic-book-like and nailed the look of the way Mel's was filmed to look like one of those old restaurant picture post cards. But reading the critique reminded me; It is not a deep movie. Trying to make the film sound interesting to someone who's an even remotely sophisticated person who has never seen it is like an exercise in futility. That sounds like a put down but its not. What IS deep is our own personal life experiences that we bring to the film and project into it every time we watch it. Thanx again for the fantastic post!
