Crawdaddy 1973 November - George Lucas - American Graffiti

As I sort thru stacks of books and magazines hunting that next Graffiti jewel I have noticed a trend. The newer articles about American Graffiti seem to ask the same questions over and over and sometimes even quote incorrect "facts" from other articles. It is a shame when there are so many untold Graffiti stories out there and the real facts fade a little every day. I guess that's why I personally prefer the early stuff when the reporters asked good and interesting questions. . Now for some fresh facts from 1973. It's a great article back when they could get an interview with Lucas.

Hot Rods Field Guide 2004

"When Lucas Spotted it in a Shop" ???? This is a new one for me.

Lamont? ....Big Dummy! Isn't that Fred "G' Sanfords Son? and now I guess the G stands for Graffiti?  Lemat... Lamont who fact checks anymore? Most people would probably not catch the misspelling but we all know what a stickler I am for the details.

Look they state that the 55 still exists! and they didn't confuse Figari's 55 clone with the real car. Jeff

A Century On Wheels 1993 - Cruising The Crossroads

This is a well written article on American Graffiti. It covers the entire plot line. Unlike so many other articles it does talk about the important role that the cars played in the film. That was refreshing but I personally prefer articles that include more personal information or back story's.... Like being under such a tight filming schedule and losing the primary filming site after only the second night of filming needless to say the young director was under a lot of pressure. Filming nights and editing days it's said that George Lucas never smiled during the entire five week shooting except for the times when Wolfman Jack would make armpit noises.

Street Rodder 1982 May - Cindy Williams, Paul Lemat

This Street Rodder is from 1982 though the Picture of Cindy and Paul looks older? I do like their quote that "Nothing gave street rodding a shot in the are like American Graffiti"

I don't think this is the original Graffiti Coupe in 1982?? So that would make this one of the earliest clones I have seen.
